Canon imagePROGRAF iPF Hardware Error 03130031-260E

Canon imagePROGRAF iPF Hardware Error 03130031-260E

If you've found this page, the hardware error 03130031-260E message has shown on your display panel and there's a good chance you're concerned about the future of your imagePROGRAF iPF large format printer.  Have no fear, the ProPrinting Systems blog is here!

What is hardware error 03130031-260E?

So many numbers, it has to be something terrible, right?  The service manual explains it is a GAP detection failure.  What the heck does that mean?

It means "Carriage gap calibration has not been carried out, or gap detection is disabled by corrupt calibration data."

Well, that certainly clears things up, doesn't it?

Can I Fix The Error

Believe it or not, this might be a quick fix.  Turn the printer off, wait a few moments, and turn it back on.  If the error clears itself, do a happy dance (then subscribe to our blog as a way to say thanks).

If a power cycle doesn't work, it's time to make some difficult decisions.

Option 1

You may want to consult a professional service tech to fix this error for you. It involves purchasing parts and taking your printer apart. You should know, some printer models are no longer supported by Canon, meaning simply calling Canon customer support won't do any good. You will need a Canon Authorized Servicing Agency (hint: ProPrinting Systems is one of those...)

If you want to try it the repair on your own, here are the steps.

  1. Check to see if the multisensor reference plate (white patch for batch correction) is not soiled and perform GAP CALIB (if soiled, adjust the part after replacing it).
  2. Replace the multisensor and perform GAP CALIB.
  3. Replace the carriage unit and perform GAP CALIB.

Parts

Depending on your printer model, parts may still be available.  We recommend only using genuine Canon parts installed by a factory-trained technician.

Option 2

Consider the age of the printer and the age of your computer. If your model printer is no longer supported, chances are strong that new computers won't be able to print on a "legacy" model printer. Translation: the cost of parts/repair might not make as much sense as purchasing a new large format printer.

    Hie Ron

I hope that you may be able to help me with my situation. My canon ipf670 says they is a paper jam when I try to print or load paper roll. How can I fix this problem.

    Thanks in advance

It’s possible you have a paper jam. It’s also possible you have a bad sensor. Try updating firmware and cleaning your purge unit pads. Then reload the paper and try again. If that doesn’t work, you will have to start replacing parts or look for a new printer (whichever is a cheaper option).
