Canon imagePROGRAF iPF Hardware Error 03130031-2F25
Hardware error 03130031-2F25 is a carriage motor error. Prior to attempting any troubleshooting, please read the information here. It can save you the heartache of creating more problems for yourself by guessing what's wrong.
What The Code Means
Error 2F25 displays a message on the printer that says "Power On Again CR Position Err Restart Printer".
The longer explanation is "Carriage motor HP not detectable. Detected only for the wide format. For the narrow format, the carriage motor HP can be detected when the carriage hits the wall in a full scan following the detection of the HP".
You're glad you read that, right?
How To Fix It
Before trying anything, lift the top cover and make sure there are not obstructions (like paper jams) and make sure the carriage is properly docked on the right side of the printer.
Once you have verified there are no jams (or you've removed them) press the power button and turn the printer off. Wait a few moments, and turn the power back on.
If the error has cleared, you are finished with this troubleshoot.
If The Error Does Not Clear
A technician will likely check the carriage HP sensor in IO mode. This is a function of service mode. It is not recommended for "end users" to enter service mode, however, on printer models that have become unsupported by the manufacturer, it may be necessary. Printers become unsupported at the manufacturer's discretion, typically a few years after the model has been discontinued.
We discourage anyone from making any repairs without proper training and knowledge. Ignoring our recommendation could result in severe injury or death. However, if your model is no longer supported, the following information may be helpful.
In previously reported cases, repairs have included the carriage unit, carriage home position sensor, carriage drive motor, linear scale, flexible cables, and the main controller were replaced. Many of the items were unsuccessful until the main controller was replaced.
Old Printers vs. New Computers
Prior to repairing an old printer, consider its age and future computer purchases. Some older printer models do not have compatible drivers for new computers/operating systems. For new printer models, please see the link to the right.
