Canon imagePROGRAF iPF Error Code 03130031-2F2A

Canon imagePROGRAF iPF Hardware Error 03130031-2F2A

Hardware error 03130031-2F2A means your imagePROGRAF cannot detect the LF home position. It also displays a message 'directing you to restart the printer.

BEFORE POWERING DOWN, be sure there are no paper jams and the carriage/print head(s) is/are docked on the right side of the printer. You will need to lift the top cover lid to see this.

Possible Causes

This error has been known to be a bit of a crap-shoot.  Possible causes can be a variety of things: sensor, motor, carriage PCB, main controller, or print head.

Technicians have reported trying strange processes (not documented or directed in the service manual) until "something" worked.

That doesn't help you, I know...

How To Fix It

If the power cycle doesn't clear your error, this has the potential to be expensive. We recommend contacting your local factory authorized service technician to begin proper troubleshooting. If a tech is not available, or you have a discontinued/unsupported model, DIY may be your only option.

We discourage attempting any repairs without proper training, knowledge, and tools. Ignoring our recommendation could result in injury or death.

If you are going to attempt the fix yourself, begin by checking the sensor. You may need to replace the feed roller encoder sensor. You may also need to replace the encoder film, feed motor/belt/adjust belt tension or replace the long flexible cable.

If the motor could not be run at all, a mechanical load error may be suspected. The motor or drive circuit may be at fault. If the carriage has resulted in an error after moving at a constant speed, the feed roller HP sensor may be at fault. If the carriage has run more or less out of control and resulted in an error, the encoder sensor may be at fault.

When FU2802 blows out on the iPF6300/6400 series, replace the main controller.

Old Printers vs. New Computers

Depending on its age, your printer may be too far gone - and the best option is to let it die.

Older models rarely have compatible drivers for new computers and operating systems. For information on Canon's current line of new large format printers, please click the image to the right to see a page with models sorted by industry for your convenience.

For me, it ended up being a dusty encoder sensor and encoder film. I blew my out with air and used a clean microfiber cloth to wipe the encoder film.
