What The Code Means
he 2F14 error means ASIC register not writable (hardware error 2). More simply put, the printer could not write to the ASIC register on the main controller PCB. Oh, glad they made it simple for us to understand, right...
The Fix
Please make sure there are no obstructions on the print surface (lift the top cover and view). If there are no paper jams and the carriage is docked to the right, please reboot the printer using the power button.
If the error clears, you've dodged a bullet today! But if the error comes back, you need a new main controller PCB. Please see the instructions below.
Option 1
It is always our recommendation to have this type of repair completed by a Canon Authorized Service Technician. It's likely to be an expensive option, but it has the highest chance of successfully diagnosing and repairing your printer.
Some printers are no longer supported by Canon, and will require finding an independent servicer. This may also be expensive, but is still a better option than a DIY repair, especially if you aren't familiar with electronics.
If you are going to attempt any repairs on your own, unplug the printer from the power source first, and exercise extreme caution. Electronic devices can cause injury, death, or further damage to the printer. We do not recommend DIY repair if you are not experienced with electronics.
Option 2
The cost of this type of repair can be close to 2/3 the cost of a brand new printer. In many cases, the new printer is the better option because of the new advances in technology and the new warranty.
Additionally, consider the age of the printer. New software, operating systems, and computers may not have written drivers that are compatible with older printers. This means your brand new PC may not work with your newly repaired 5-year-old printer. You'll have to buy new anyway.
