Canon imagePROGRAF iPF Hardware Error 03130031-291D
Hardware error 03130031-291D is a sensor error. Though your Canon imagePROGRAF iPF large format printer may not require major surgery, you should get ready to pull the plug. Not because the printer is at the end of its life, but because it's an electronic device and making any type of repair while it's still plugged in may be the end of your life (I'm sure you'd like to avoid that type of situation).
What The Code Means
The 291D error is a spur cam sensor detection error. WHAT?
Seriously, this might be an easy fix. Let's check it out...
Like so many other errors with the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF printer, start with a simple reboot. Wait a few moments, before turning the power back on.
If the error clears, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, there is nothing to see here!
If the error comes back, we need to access service mode. Follow the instructions in the video below.
A repair of this type should be completed by a Canon Authorized Service Technician. This may be an expensive option, but it's the choice that has the highest likelihood of success.
If you have a "legacy" model that is no longer supported by Canon, you will have to find an independent servicer (which will be even more expensive) or you will have to attempt the repair on your own)
In the event that you are going to attempt a DIY repair, be sure to unplug the printer from its power source, and exercise caution. Working with electronic devices may result in injury, death, or damage to the printer. If you are not experienced with electronics, we strongly recommend you hire a professional.
Purchase a new Printer
Consider the cost of parts plus the cost/time needed to make the repair. If repair costs look more appealing than the price of a new printer, consider the age of the printer. Older printers may no longer work with newer computers and current operating systems.
In many cases, a brand new printer is a better choice.
